Set in Stone is a Chrome browser extension that lets you post and read comments on any webpage. Comments are written permanently to the Bitcoin (BSV) blockchain via your HandCash wallet. This policy explains honestly what data we do and do not collect.

What we collect

We collect almost nothing. The only data stored on our server is what is strictly necessary to match a login session to your HandCash profile:

• A temporary session token issued by HandCash after you authorise the app.
• Your HandCash handle (your public username, e.g. $yourhandle).

No email addresses, phone numbers, passwords, or payment details are collected or stored by us. Your HandCash wallet credentials never leave HandCash — we only receive a short-lived access token so the extension can post on your behalf.

URL lookups

When the side panel is open on the “Page” tab, the URL of the webpage you are viewing is sent to our server in order to fetch comments for that page. This is the core feature working as intended. We do not store a record of which user visited which URL, and this request is not associated with your identity in our database. URLs are only stored when you actively post a comment (see “What is public by design” below).

What is public by design

Every comment, reply, like, and follow you post through Set in Stone is written as a transaction to the public Bitcoin (BSV) blockchain. This is permanent and visible to anyone in the world. Do not post anything you wish to keep private. Your HandCash handle, the URL of the page you commented on, and your wallet’s public BSV deposit address are all attached to each on-chain transaction and indexed in our database for fast display.

Third-party services

• HandCash — Authentication and payments are handled by HandCash (handcash.io/privacy). By connecting your HandCash account you agree to their terms. We do not control or have access to your HandCash password or seed phrase.
• Google Chrome — As a Chrome extension, standard Chrome and Google browser policies apply. Google may collect browser telemetry independently of this extension. We have no access to or control over what Google collects.
• WhatsOnChain — Transaction links inside the extension point to whatsonchain.com, a public blockchain explorer. Clicking those links is subject to their privacy policy.

Data we do not collect

We do not:

• Build or store a history of which websites you visit. When the side panel is open, the current page URL is sent to our server solely to fetch comments for that page — it is not saved against your identity (see URL lookups above).
• Sell or share your data with advertisers — there is no advertising infrastructure of any kind.
• Store any analytics or behavioural data — we use no analytics services (no Google Analytics, Mixpanel, or similar).
• Use cookies — authentication uses a session ID header, not a cookie. The extension stores your session locally using Chrome’s built-in storage.
• Collect any data beyond what is described in this policy.

Data retention

Session tokens on our server are removed when you log out. Comments stored in our database are indexed copies of what is already permanently and publicly on the blockchain; they exist only so the extension can display comments without querying the blockchain directly.

Children

This extension is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
